OFF-GRID AND OFFLINE
About Unplugged cabins
We make off-grid and offline cabins in some of the best corners of the UK countryside. Barclay and Wilfred sit right on the Exmoor coast near Porlock, Somerset - looking out over the ocean, sea air on tap, and your phone in the lockbox from the moment you arrive.
3 NIGHT DIGITAL DETOX
The cabin experience
Swap your phone for a Nokia with Snake loaded up, an instant camera with film, board games, a cassette player, a stack of books, and a lot of outside. Both Barclay and Wilfred are fully dog-friendly with enclosed fencing - and the coast is close enough that a beach walk is never more than a short drive away.
NOT JUST A NORMAL BREAK
Backed by science
We fix our stays at 3 or 4 nights for a reason. Research shows cortisol levels begin to drop meaningfully after 72 hours in nature and away from screens. Sleep quality improves. The reflex to pick up your phone starts to fade. We built the stays around that window because one night is nice, but three nights is where something actually shifts.
In the local area

Questions about our coastal cabins
Frequently asked questions about Barclay and Wilfred, our sea-view cabins on the Exmoor coast near Porlock.
How far are the cabins from Bristol and London?
Our Exmoor coast cabins near Porlock are about 2 hours from Bristol and around 4 hours from London by car. Exact drive times are listed on each cabin page.
Do I need a car to get to the cabins?
Yes - Porlock is best reached by car as the closest train station is about an hour away. The village lanes are narrow and rural, but that's part of the charm. Well worth the drive when you get there.
Are Barclay and Wilfred dog-friendly?
Both Barclay and Wilfred are dog-friendly with fully enclosed fencing. Please note sheep roam freely in the fields so when outside the fenced area please keep dogs on leads and if you have a reactive dog, these cabins might not be suitable.
What actually happens with my phone?
There's a lockbox in every cabin for you to lock your phone away. Alongside it you get a Nokia, an instant camera, a cassette player, books, and board games. It's completely self-policed so you can access your phone if you need to.
Why 3 or 4 nights? Can I book for less?
All our stays are fixed at 3 or 4 nights and we're deliberate about it. The research on digital detox and stress recovery consistently points to 72 hours as the threshold where the physiological change actually happens - better sleep, lower cortisol, slower nervous system. A weekend break is lovely. Three nights offline is something that actually carries over when you get back.
Is there any wifi or phone signal in the cabins?
No wifi, by design. Phone signal varies by location - some cabins have 5G, some have none.
