Bracken

Shropshire
Dog friendly
1hr from Birmingham
Far reaching views

Perched high with sweeping views over the Shropshire Hills, Bracken is an elevated off-grid cabin made for those who love a bit of wilderness with their comfort. Reached on foot via a long, winding woodland path, she sits proudly on the corner of a field, complete with a landscaped outdoor seating area and a private enclosed balcony - the perfect spot to breathe in the peace and listen to the sounds of nature.

Inside, Bracken’s panelled interior feels instantly inviting, with plenty of space for two. There’s a well-equipped kitchen, a cosy living area, and a bathroom with a hot shower, soft linen bedding, and luxury towels and toiletries. Built for slow, simple living, she comes stocked with a phone lockbox, instant camera, and a radio-cassette player - everything you need to switch off and enjoy life offline. Like all our cabins, Bracken runs on solar power, offering a sustainable escape without compromising on comfort. It's slightly larger than all our other cabins, so a great choice for those needing a little more space or bringing a travel cot.

Named after the landowner’s beloved pooch, Bracken is dog-friendly too! The enclosed balcony means your four-legged friend can enjoy the fresh air safely while joining you on a cosy countryside staycation.

Please note that the field beside Bracken may have some light farming activity at certain times of year - we’ll always do our best to let you know in advance if that’s likely during your stay. The drive up to Bracken’s parking spot is along a farm track, so it’s worth checking the FAQs below for more details before you set off.

FAQs

You can travel to Bracken via car or public transport (train and short taxi ride) from most major UK cities.

After booking, you’ll receive an online ‘Welcome Guide’ detailing the exact location of the cabin and directions by car or train and taxi. If you’re travelling by train, we highly recommend booking your connecting taxi in advance, as rural locations don’t tend to have Uber!

Please note the drive to the parking area/drop-off spot is 2.2km  along a farm track - it's bumpy, but traversable if you go slow and steady! The walk to the cabin is just under 600m through a woodland, and we recommend bringing a torch!

Bracken has a King Size bed so you're more than welcome to bring a little one along if you're happy to get under the covers together. Please note that the cabin has not been 'child-proofed' and there are pointy edges and a hot log burner in the cabin.

The cabin is your space to relax in any way you like to, but we’ve kitted it out with lots of phone-free activities, including:

📚 A selection of our fave books
👾 Board games
🃏 Diary of CEO Conversation Cards
📻 Radio Cassette Player + Tapes
📸 Instant Camera + 10 free films
🗺 Map and compass

And of course you might want to head out and explore the local area. The map and welcome guide include recommendations of restaurants, cafes and other attractions nearby.

Check-in is at 3pm
Check-out is at 10am

We don’t currently include food packages, but all cabins have a well-equipped kitchen including a mini-fridge and gas hob to cook up your fave meals. We include pots, pans, cooking utensils and even chef knives. Plus, loose leaf tea, coffee beans, oil, salt and pepper.

If you’re looking for a night or two away from the stove, there’s always plenty of nearby pubs and restaurants listed in our cabin guides.

Yes! All our cabins have hot showers and an eco-composting toilet in an indoor bathroom. We provide eco-friendly toiletries and towels, too!

Yes! Our cabins are perfect for a solo digital detox as they are on private land and are lockable from the inside and outside. Bracken is remote, so there aren't any nearby buildings, but we're on hand on cabin support if you need us too. If you want to chat ahead of your stay to ease any anxieties or plan your trip, you can book in a call with us here

We include enough firewood for so you can keep warm and toasty during your stay.

To reach Bracken, you'll drive 1.7km along a track through a private farm. This track serves a few residential properties. You'll then drive a further 500m along a farm track, which is rough in places, however still traversable - we advise going slow, and avoiding obvious potholes. If you have a particularly low-slung car, do let us know and we can advise an alternative parking area. Our changeover team drive the full length of the track in a Fiat 500, so it's very navigable, we just advise driving slowly and cautiously.

The walk to the cabin is just under 600m through a woodland, and we recommend bringing a torch!

We recommend you unplug for the full duration of your stay to get the most from your digital detox, but this is totally self-policed. Our lockboxes have a padlock and key, with the key in a sealed envelope, so if you want to unlock it, you can.

We provide you with a Nokia so you can reach our cabin support team and contact friends and family if you need to. The number for the Nokia will be shared with you in advance of your stay.

All our stays at Herbie are 3 or 4 nights as this is the minimum time it takes to fully switch off and reap the benefits of nature and time offline. You can read more about 'The 3 Day Effect' here.

We know plans can change, so we’ll always do what we can to accommodate booking amendments. If your check-in date is over 28 days away, your stay can be rebooked for a new date or you can request a voucher, or a full refund. If your check-in date is within 14-28 days, you can move your stay to a future date, or request a voucher equal to the payment you have made. Cancellations or amendments are unfortunately not possible if your check-in date is in or within 14 days. All bookings have a 48 hour cooling off period, so if you change your mind you can reschedule your stay or get a full refund. Rescheduled stays are non-refundable.
