A Need to Rewild?

Starting to consider the importance of getting back to basics, immersing within nature and embracing the wilderness again? We explore why this is an integral part of our ethos...

Rewilding. It’s a phrase heard a lot in regards to nature, the reintroduction of flora, fauna and wildlife, and the act of increasing and protecting biodiversity. But what happens when the concept is applied to human life? Quite frankly, it’s a big part of what we’re all about here. It’s all about reconnecting with the natural world and finding ways of living that are more in tune with our biology. With 86% of us Brits living in cities and 90% of our time spent indoors, it’s more important than ever that we, as humans, look to find ways to reinvigorate our natural rhythms and connect with the organic environment around us.

Here at Unplugged HQ, our personal pact this summer is to soak up as much nature as we possibly can. We’re turning to blue health (we’ll be bringing you more on this soon, but it’s essentially a concept of looking to water for instant natural therapy), forest bathing (spending time within green spaces and surrounded by trees is proven to boost our immunity, reduce blood pressure and reduce cortisol levels), and immersing ourselves back within the wilderness. We can hear you wondering how to do this from within the constraints of urban landscapes and busy schedules, but we’re here to tell you that it doesn’t need to be complicated. In fact, we’re so far removed from wild lives these days that rewilding is actually incredibly simple. It can be as simple as spending time barefoot in the grass, seeking out your nearest expanse of water, or finding splatters of quiet, overgrown green space hidden amongst the chaos. Put simply, taking it back to basics and embracing a sense of antidote to modern life can be enough. It doesn’t have to be all the time or a complete lifestyle change, but work on prioritising nature, movement and contact (both human and with the outdoor world).

Have we left you wanting to know more? That’s good to know because, from next month, this little section will be a special longer read, from us to you, full of thoughts, commentary and interesting snippets from the world of unplugging. We’re excited to start conversations with you…
